The company has deep roots that take us back to 1957. Kenneth R. Hammarlund started in the landscaping business as Hammarlund Landscaping. He began with a retail nursery and doing small residential landscapes. Ken’s wife, Joyce, was the bookkeeper in these early years.
In 1995, Ken’s daughter, Arlene, joined the company. With over ten years of accounting and business management experience, she began handling all front office aspects the company. Meanwhile, Tony Linder had been working for the company in operations for over a year at this point.
In 2005, Erosion Control Specialists, Inc. began operations with Arlene G. Hammarlund and Tony Linder as shareholders. The company purchased all Hammarlund Landscaping, Inc. assets. All employees previously employed by Hammarlund Landscaping joined the ECS team. Virtually all operations continued as in the past, same management, same employees, same locations, under new management. Tony began handling daily contact with contractors allowing Ken to reduce his involvement. In 2012, Tony Linder took full command of ECS as it grows and moves forward.
In 2013, a new book about the history of Esko and Carlton County will be published. Look for a brief story about the company there!
